The 16th annual Palm Springs Veterans Day Parade will kick off at 3:30 pm on Palm Canyon Drive at Ramon Road on November 11th. The parade theme is “Honoring All Who Served.”
Immediately following the parade, a post concert will kick off featuring the First Marine Division Band from Camp Pendleton. The concert festivities will conclude with a fireworks finale. The after parade event will take place at the main stage located at the intersection of Amado Road and Palm Canyon Drive.
On a personal note, my grandfather served in WWII and was a career officer for more than 25 years. He retired and, with my grandmother, moved to Palm Springs in the 1950s, where they lived until their deaths, in the 1970s.
The photos above were taken in the 1930s or 1940s, during the war years. I’m guessing that my grandmother (far right) and friend sent this “sexy” photo to their husbands who were stationed somewhere on the battle field, to boost their morale. My grandfather (far left) and his military buddy replied with their own “beefcake” photo. Ah, youth!
